Start with the airline
Check the airport and airline's current notices before changing a ticket. A planned closure, a short weather disruption and an individual flight diversion call for different arrangements. Confirm where your flight will actually land before planning a pickup.
Compare alternate airports
Eagle County (EGE), Rifle (RIL), Grand Junction (GJT) and Denver (DEN) may be alternatives depending on the itinerary and available flights. Each changes the length, route and winter-road exposure of the ground leg. Compare the full door-to-door journey, not only the airfare.
Build in a buffer
For a longer drive, allow for baggage collection, road conditions and stops. If skiing, share the number of people, suitcases, ski bags and boot bags when discussing vehicle capacity. Keep arrival-day plans flexible.
